Earlier this year BigCommerce made a standout move in the battle of eCommerce platform providers.
Launching the first ever “Single Click” App Store for commerce, BigCommerce is putting the power back into the merchants, and developers hands.
As the world’s fastest growing commerce platform, this move is in keeping with the many moves they’ve been making to help merchants increase conversion rates and according to Mitchell Harper, co-founder and CEO, this one is a real game changer.
“What Salesforce did for CRM and what Facebook did for social media, we’re doing for eCommerce,” he says.
Whether that’s the case remains to be seen but what is true is that BigCommerce is making huge strides to stand out from the competition by adding value to its database of customers.
The new app store allows the platform’s 50,000+ merchants the ability to add capabilities to their online stores via a single click, just as it says on the tin.
At the moment over 150 apps, which aim to drive more shoppers to their online stores, via search, social media, email, are available. The new single click App Store has completely removed the complex process of installing apps from external sites.
As well as benefiting the merchant, the launch is also good news for developers who can take advantage of a new revenue generator. The financial incentives (70% of purchase) for an app developer are very respectable and the fact that the barrier to purchase has been significantly decreased, means merchant and developer are that much closer.
The app store is actually just one of the ways BigCommerce has made a number of dramatic updates to its software this year. At New Edge Design we work with BigCommerce software to design eCommerce websites that go above and beyond. It’s this kind of innovation that continues to make working on BigCommerce sites so exciting.
